Story

Latest news:

I came 7th in my heat out of 19 entrants in the over 60s category.

So not a champion, but had fantastic fun competing - pitted against a bunch of old geezers (including a previous world champion!) from Cornwall who probably Bellyboard every day!!!

Currently my just giving page is at £590 (£718 including gift aid) so a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me 🙏🤗

World Bellyboard Championships 2025 - Newquay 20th September

Surfing Bellyboards are made from plywood and are around 9mm thick - Bellyboards have no floatation, they act as a planing surface on top of water. They are different to a foam boogie or body board which are designed to float.

I am a Launch Authority at the RNLI’s Walmer Lifeboat Station and will be competing in this year’s World Bellyboard Championships in Newquay Cornwall on 20th September.

I could say that effectively I have been in training for 50 years, having originally been given my “plank” on a family holiday in Cornwall as a 10 year old in 1975.

Hopefully fitness, experience and reliability of this vintage piece of equipment (that I will be riding on the day) will be fully put to the test during this endeavour.

The RNLI proudly remains an entirely charitable organisation with no government funding or political affiliation.

Donations would be most welcome to ensure that we can continue to provide a 24 hour, 7 day a week, 365 days of the year rescue service saving lives at sea.

Too many people are still drowning. More than ever we need the RNLI’s help. As a charity, the RNLI depends on our donations so it can go on saving lives and keeping us and our loved ones safe.

RNLI lifesavers are our lifeline. They’re the lifeboat crews who provide 24-hour search and rescue right around the UK and Ireland. The lifeguards keeping watch on 240 of the busiest beaches in the UK and Channel Islands. And the RNLI safety teams and educators working tirelessly to stop people getting into trouble in the first place.

Thank you.
