Richard's 2025 fundraiser for MS Society Scotland

Richard Sanderson is raising money for MS Society Scotland

Midnight Sun 1200km · 15 June 2025

Over 100,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

I'm riding the Midnight Sun Randonee raising money for the MS Society. With a family connection to MS I've witnessed the effects this disease can have. Support, finding better treatments, and generally fighting MS is so important and a cause very important to me.

Midnight Sun is a 1200km audax event riding from Umea in northern Sweden, across the peninsula to Mo I Rana in Norway, a cheeky cafe-stop inside the Arctic Circle and loop back to Umea. I have 91 hours to finish within the time limits which will be Thursday evening after starting at midnight Sunday night/Monday morning.

I’ll post updates on my Instagram, Strava pages, and I will have a GPS tracking link.

Please support me by following along, and if possible donating to the MS Society also.

About MS

Multiple Sclerosis is the most common progressive neurological condition affecting young adults, with diagnosis generally between the ages of 20 and 40. MS is the result of damage to the myelin - a protective sheath surrounding nerve fibres of the central nervous system. When myelin is damaged this interferes with messages from the brain and other parts of the body causing a wide range of symptoms including fatigue, mobility issues and problems with co-ordination.

There is currently no cure for MS. For some people, MS is characterised by periods of relapse and remission while for others it has a progressive pattern. For everyone, it makes life unpredictable.

The MS Society depends entirely on charitable fundraising and the support of the public and volunteers to be able to do their work.

Donations will be split between MS Society Scotland and the MS Society Fife Group.
