Story
Janice died of bowel ('mets') cancer on 15th January 2026.
Janice was first diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2018, and although devastating for her, and the family, she remaind positive until the last.
Soon after her diagnosis Janice had a bowel operation and had to have a stoma bag for six months ...not that it stopped her from swimming, or going on long distance walks etc.
Initially Janice was given the all clear, and got to ring the bell that cancer patients - who are given this good news - are encouraged to ring. As cancer cells had been found in her lymph nodes, we would have been naive to think the cancer would not come back ...but there's always hope, and without hope you can't live a life.
As late as the summer of 2024, she and Richard ventured half way around the world and travelled form Daintree to Sydney in Australia, before spending her 58th birthday in Hong Kong. Janice so very much enjoyed the holiday of a lifetime.
In early 2025 Janice was advised that things had got worse, and to enjoy Christmas 2025. That was a hard discussion. Janice however remainder ever positive.
In early October Janice started to struggle with her breathing when walking. But she and Richard still ventured out, even if those walks were slower, and the rests along the way longer.
Janice's failing health started to speed up and Janice spent almost a week in hospital before Christmas, and almost a week immediately after Christmas ...but it was great that Janice could enjoy Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and 27th December at home with Richard, Ben, Hayden, Poppy and Indie (Ben and Poppy's dog). And even then Janice was saying to her consultants 'if I can just sort my breathing out, and get the swelling in my legs down I can get back to normal'.
