Tumaini Scotland partner with TOSO (Tumaini Orphan Support Organisation) by raising awareness and suport for the team of social workers, co-ordinators and parish workers as they care for over 100,000 orphans in NW Tanzania.

Story

Many Tanzanian children , in the Kagera region esp, have been made parentless, through HIV. When these children’s parents die of the infection, they are left in absolute poverty, living under makeshift shelters with young kids looking after younger siblings. Tumaini is a Christian charity operating now for approx. 20 years. None of the Tumaini charity personnel are paid, or receive any expenses. The ethos is that every donation goes exclusively and totally to the work. By God’s grace, Tumaini has provided Parish Worker support, healthcare , housing, schools, and a future for the orphans and widows . Incredibly, many orphans are now university graduates , returning to work as lawyers, doctors, accountants, and engineers for the charity. The hope is , that one day, Tumaini will be locally self-sustaining. In 2018, I visited Tanzania to deliver a training programme in Interpersonal Psychotherapy . We equipped Parish Workers to run village groups to help children and widows with the mental health effects of trauma.
