Story
This year marks a significant milestone as we honour the memory of my grandfather Reginald who was in 1940 evacuated from Dunkirk during World War II, 85 years ago.
In celebration of his life, sacrifice, and memory of his passing 10 years ago in 2015, I will be cycling the route he took through the villages of northern France and Belgium, joined by my cousin Ben (also his grandson).
Reg, who lived to 95, faced the challenges of Alzheimer's disease in his final years. This condition continues to affect our family as my aunt Barbara (Reg's daughter and Ben's mother) was also diagnosed a number of years ago. So we wanted to do more than just a pilgrimage, but also make a small contribution to those living with the condition and their families.
Over three days, we will ride 320 km (200 miles), chasing parts of the Tour de France and ending our journey at Dunkirk just as the race passes through this historic site.
We are setting a target to raise £500 for the Alzheimer's Society, and any contributions you give will help provide essential resources and support for those affected by the disease.
