Sky to Sea: A HEMS Paramedic’s 40,000nm Mission for NWAA

Rich Askew is raising money for North West Air Ambulance

Clipper RTW Race

The charity's three helicopters and four rapid response vehicles operate 365 days a year, with doctors and paramedics on board providing enhanced prehospital care to people across the entire North West region.

Story

For the last three years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a Critical Care Paramedic with the North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA), responding to life-changing emergencies from the air. I know first-hand that the speed and enhanced care we bring saves lives, but we are funded entirely by generosity.

In 2027, I am stepping out of the helicopter and onto a 70ft racing yacht to take on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.

I’ve seen the North West from the air; now I’m going to see the world from the waterline.

The Mission:

- 40,000 Nautical Miles: A full circumnavigation of the globe.

- 11 Months at Sea: Facing some of the world's extreme elements.

- £10,000 Goal: Every penny raised goes directly to NWAA to keep our helicopters flying and our crews saving lives.

The race will push me to my limits, but it is nothing compared to the resilience I see from our patients every day.

Please join me on this journey from Sky to Sea. Every donation keeps us flying, and I am incredibly grateful for your support.

Thank you.
