LOROS Leicestershire Round Bike Ride · 5 September 2026 ·

On 5 September 2026, the LOROS Bike Ride returns with a 100-mile route around Leicestershire. New for this year is a 50-mile point-to-point option, both showcasing stunning countryside and offering a rewarding challenge with rolling hills.

Story

On the 24th May 2023 at approximately 11.30am at Glenfield Hospital Jean my wife who I also call Audrey (long story) was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

This is where our story begins. In that moment our world was turned upside down!! The battle began. I became her full time carer. We’ve always done everything together so this would be no different. They say never mix business and pleasure but we did and it worked well for us.

We spent all our time together attending appointments and treatments while both supporting each other. We did well at first with a successful operation followed by six months of chemotherapy which was brutal. But bless her she never complained and just got on with it completing 12 rounds.

We were doing well but unfortunately towards the end of February 2025 we were told it had spread and was now terminal. (the words you never want to hear)

We were offered more chemotherapy but with no light at the end of the tunnel we declined this offer.

We decided to make the most of the time we had left together.

It was a good summer and we spent most of the time in the garden like we normally would.

Eventually the changes came slowly at first and we ended up in LOROS for the first time to help with the pain management for approximately 3 weeks.

On the 31st October (Halloween) I got to bring Audrey home. What a fantastic day.

Two weeks later though the realisation came that I couldn’t give her the care that she needed at home anymore.

We then made the very hard decision to go back in to LOROS. We were very lucky as the beds are not many and they could do with lots more.

I call LOROS the LOROS Hilton as it's truly a magnificent place to stay.

After a couple of weeks they moved us to a side room with an ensuite (5 Star) and cuddle bed. We didn’t realise this at the time but this meant we got to spend our last 8 days and nights together. It really couldn’t have been any better. (if you know what I mean)

This is why I want to raise money for/towards these cuddle beds.

Our battle came to an end on 9th December 2025 at 3.23pm. Boy how I miss her after 32 years of near perfection together.

Thank you for taking time to read this and if you can afford to sponsor me I would be so grateful but if you can’t then I understand totally.

Love and blessings to you all.

Cheers Rick
