Story
I’m participating in this years Great North Run on Sunday 8th of September 2024. In memory of John Martin Nicholson, a loving father to my partner Sophie, sister in law Micah, and husband to Nicola.
John lost his life to lung cancer 13 years ago at only 41 years of age. In a short 10 week battle, he passed In July 2011. A honourable and hard working individual who was active, fit, and healthy.
Well respected by so many, John is remembered for his selflessness, humour and integrity.
John’s family and friends set a target of £10,000 in memory of ‘John’ for the ‘Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation’.
So far, £7,500 has been raised over the last 13 years, and I hope colleagues, friends and family can help me support the Foundation, they are the only UK charity wholly dedicated to helping everyone affected by lung cancer.
If only I had the opportunity to meet him, the very least I can do is carry on his memory via ‘The John Martin Nicholson Fund’ for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundations to help achieve their £10,000 target.
With around 48,500 lung cancer cases each year, it is the most common cause of cancer death for both men and women, so it’s vital that everyone knows what the symptoms of lung cancer are.
Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is a registered charity which aims to provide help and hope to people affected by lung cancer. Founded in Liverpool in 1990, it is the only UK charity to focus solely on lung cancer care. The charity has a dual focus - saving lives and supporting people affected by lung cancer. It funds lung cancer research, supports the prevention of lung cancer by encouraging and helping people to avoid or quit smoking, and raises general awareness of lung cancer and its symptoms. It also supports lung cancer patients by running support groups, providing information to the NHS, and others.
I would greatly appreciate any donation that you can afford, to support research that may prevent the devastation this cruel disease causes to families.
