Rick's little 94km run for Pilgrims Hospices !!

North Downs Way 94km loop - Fastest Known Time Record · 18 May 2024
As you probably know by now, I'm quite into my running 🏃🏽♂️ (understatement) and in particular Trail Running around the beautiful Kent countryside. I like to set myself crazy challenges from time to time and my latest one is to attempt the entire North Downs Way Loop (94kms / 58 miles), yes that's more than 2 marathons back to back, and in the fastest known time possible to set a new record. Current record is 11 hrs 58 minutes and 45s.
What you may not know is unfortunately, I have lost several loved ones who have required end of life care including my Dad, Keith Walton, during lockdown which was really tough and running was one of my coping strategies at the time. Dad spent his last few days under the expert care and attention of the amazing staff at Pilgrims Hospice Ashford, so I wanted to give something back. 💕
I also think its fitting as the Pilgrims Way follows the North Downs Way in many sections throughout Kent !
Here's a bit about the amazing work that Pilgrims Hospice carry out on a daily charitable basis:
At its heart, Pilgrims is dedicated to providing skilled and compassionate care, free of charge, to people living with an incurable illness in east Kent. Their vision is that people with a life-limiting illness are supported and empowered to live well in mind & body, making the most of the time they have. They care for over 2,500 patients a year, at their 3 inpatient units in Canterbury, Thanet & Ashford, their therapy centres, or in patients’ own homes. With 80% of their funding being voluntary contributions, your support cannot be overstated.
Please give generously if you can 🙏🏼
UPDATE: 🏆 With the support of an amazing team of pacers and pit crew I managed to beat the current record and am now officially the Fastest Known Time (FKT) record holder for the North Downs Way route in a time of 10:35:22. 👑
