Story
I’m back! (Yeah, I know, sorry)
Every year I drag this old bag of bones back out onto the ice to represent a charity at the annual Ice Hockey Allstars Tournament. This year I’ll be repping Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice which is a children’s hospice local to the tournament venue in Sheffield where our team will take on a range of other charity teams across the weekend of 25th and 26th of July. Of course, just playing in the tournament isn’t enough and many of you will have followed last year’s adventure as I walked the length of Hadrian’s Wall in full hockey kit.
This year I’ve been inspired by those dramatic winter shots of hockey players skating to the rink in Canada down frozen rivers and lakes and so I will be skating to this year’s tournament. Well, not quite because it’ll be in July, in England and there’re no frozen rivers and lakes. So instead I will be paddle boarding 100 miles along the Kennet and Avon Canal IN FULL HOCKEY KIT from 18th July in what I hope will be four days of paddling (well; flapping, wobbling, falling and splashing). I say “full hockey kit” but I have swapped my shoulder pads out for a life jacket underneath my jersey just in case!
Please sponsor me on this epic (stupid) journey across Southern England. Bluebell Wood Hospice was built in 2008 and currently has around 300 children on its books. Every family deserves to make magical memories with their child, whether they have years, months, weeks, or days together, and therefore Bluebell Wood offers broad family centred holistic support services, alongside the provision of direct care for their children to make that happen. They support children and families from the point of diagnosis through to end of life and beyond, and this is all provided at zero cost to the children and their families.
However, it takes around £18,000 a day in donations to keep all of that going and so I’d urge you to throw a few pennies in my direction to sponsor my paddle boarding efforts and the tournament in July. Our team’s goal is to raise £18,000 between us and thus give Bluebell Wood at least one day when they don’t have to worry about how they’re going to pay for everything. Please help me make that happen.
I know times are tough for all of us at the moment but please help me make some very short lives brilliant ones.
