Cancer took our wonderful mother-in-law, Sue Glastonbury-Cole, leaving a husband, three amazing children and six wonderful grandchildren with a hole that can never be filled. And cancer is deep into taking my amazing dad, John Towers. I'm bedside writing this page in Barnstaple Hospital - the team here are amazing but it's killing him. And that's killing me.

My best mate forever Lee Pajak and I had planned Lands End to John o'Groats in July/ Aug, and I can't think of better cause right now than to raise money for research to kick cancer's @ss. Too late to save some, but we can save future parents, partners and kids from this indiscriminate killer.

It is 'just' 1,600 km in distance over 14 consecutive days, and the climb is approximately 2.5 times the elevation of Mount Everest. And it's bl**dy hot. And combined, we are over 106 years young (Lee is notably older than me). So it will be quite some achievement.

Why is the goal £1966? I stayed with dad last night in hospital and we watched England together. Dad talked about 1966 - the year 'we got it over the line'. So I sincerely hope friends, family and loved ones can help Lee and me get to £1966, or more. A tenner, £20, fifty quid or a fiver - everything helps.
