Story

APRIL 2024

In memory of Matt Liddle

It is with great sadness that Zak, Will, Adam, Harry and Hari will now be completing this fundraiser without Matt (Matthew) Liddle, following his tragic death on the 29th of March 2024. It is Matt’s parents’ wish (Jon and Karen) that we continue to ensure the classroom is now built in his honour. Matt was instrumental in arranging this event; his caring nature meant that he always helped others in need and would want to ensure these wonderful girls will have the opportunity to be educated and be the very best they can be.

Rest in peace Matt, your spirit will give us all the strength we need.

Meet Our Team - revised April 2024

Our group consists of Zak Mehta Hodges, Will Green, Harry Brown, and Hari Mavani, all studying in Bristol, with Adam Bonney adding a splash of the University of Brighton's coastal charm. Our bonds span years and life stages—from Will and Zak's friendship starting at eight years old at Akeley Wood Junior School, to the alliances formed in secondary school between Matt Liddle and Zak, as well as Will and Adam. Hari and Harry, our newest friends met in Bristol, complete our circle, bringing new insights and shared goals.

United by Education

We're bound by more than just our academic pursuits; a deep belief in the transformative power of education underpins our friendship. It's this belief that has drawn us together, influencing our paths and our purpose. Now, as we set out to experience the rich culture and beauty of India, we're mindful of our educational privileges and want to give back, focusing our efforts on empowering the girls in Uttar Pradesh through education—hoping they, too, can build lifelong connections and alter their futures for the better.

Our Cause: Supporting Pardada Pardadi Education Society (PPES)

In the heart of Uttar Pradesh, one of India’s most populous, patriarchal, crime-ridden and economically challenged States, a quiet revolution is taking place. Young girls whose destinies so far have been limited to being married off as young as 6-7 or being forced to work in the fields for little or no wage are now rewriting their destinies thanks to quality education being provided to them through the unique organisation PPES. These girls are first-generation learners and are determined to face any and every challenge that comes their way to make their dreams come true.

Pardada Pardadi which translates loosely to ‘values imparted by the grandparents’ started as a school for 35 girls in the year 2000 and is now a flourishing school with over 3500 girls.

The need for education is huge in this region with over 5,000 young girls queuing up for admission every year. There is a desperate need for more classrooms to be able to accommodate the increased demand.

Our Challenge: The Rickshaw Run

To address this urgent need, we're embarking on a 2,400KM journey across India, from Fort Kochi to Rajasthan, in tuk-tuks. This September, our adventure—The Rickshaw Run—aims to do more than explore; it's a mission to fund the construction of a new classroom. This project, costing £14,000, will annually educate 50 girls, directly contributing to their empowerment. We're committed to making a difference and invite you to join us. Every donation will directly fund the construction of this essential classroom. Follow our journey, and stay updated with photos and videos of our visit to PPES.
