What I am Raising Money For......
Following on from the huge success of the REQUEST2021 Antarctic research project, plans for a new expedition to the Arctic Circle are now in full swing from the Kent Scout Global Projects Team.
I am part of a team consisting of 13 young people and 7 leaders from Scouting groups across Kent, who are embarking on a expedition to the frozen north.
The aim of the expedition is to continue in the footsteps of Scout Marr, who went north in 1925/26 and completed polar research as part of Frank Worsley’s British Arctic journey.
Throughout the voyage, our team will be undertaking the challenge of crewing the vessel and undertake polar research and conservation projects. Our goal is to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the polar regions and share this knowledge to those back home to support future conservation efforts.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
VOYAGE An adventurous expedition Under sail in the Frozen North.
PROJECTS Undertake personal projects and present the results.
WORSLEY Celebrate the achievements of Frank Worsley.
OUTREACH Share the experience with thousands of young people.
and now for the answer to the beer mat Riddle.......
It takes 9 minutes for a round trip to the land and back to the ship.
In the first 9 minutes 5 sailors enter the raft and 4 get off on land, the remaining sailor is now back at the ship having rowed the raft to pick up the next group of sailors. 4 more sailors board the raft.
9 minutes later the sailor on the raft is back at the ship, having moved a total 8 sailors to land in a total time of 18 minutes.
The sailor on the raft repeats their actions, and at 27 minutes has moved a total of 12 people to land. The raft is now back at the ship and 4 more can board.
3 minutes later the ship sinks. The four last sailors to board the raft along with the rower disembark safely on land.
4 + 4 + 4 + 5 = 17 sailors
