Pedalling for popsicles: 300km, 2 bikes, 1 sweet cause
Inspired by Wren’s rally…This September, Drs Lorna Latimer and Hamish McAuley from the NIHR Leicester BRC are cycling 300km in just 2 days- from Leicester to Amsterdam- to get to the European Respiratory Society (ERS) conference where they’re presenting their work.
But this challenge is much more than simply getting from A to B.
They’re taking on this challenge to:
1. Raise funds for a freezer and a supply of ice creams and lollies for the children’s cancer ward at Leicester Royal Infirmary. For children undergoing cancer treatment, ice lollies aren't just a treat — they can help ease mouth sores, soothe nausea, and offer comfort at a tough time.
2. Promote active transport as a healthy, sustainable way to travel — for our own wellbeing and the planet’s.
3. Prove that it's possible to do meaningful work and reach our professional goals without hopping on a plane.
Please support them in making this journey count — for the kids, the climate, and the cause. Every donation helps us bring a little more joy (and a lot more ice cream) to the children who need it most.
