Ride for Rita · 26 July 2025

We help the babies, children and young people treated at Scotland's largest children's hospital, the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. We fund medical equipment, research, play programmes and family support services to ensure that our young patients receive the best possible care and experience.

Story

Beginning in Aberdeen on 23rd July, the cyclists will follow the coastline to Edinburgh crossing the country and finishing the ride on 26th July at Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow, where Rita was treated- a total of 210 miles.

Whilst sitting next to Rita’s incubator, Fadi had the idea to raise money by doing a Ride for Rita, being a doctor himself, he decided that the ride would visit the highest-level neonatal units in Scotland, those that look after the sickest babies like Rita. And because Rita had Edwards Syndrome, or Trisomy-18, an initial funding target of £18,000 was set to honour her. Fadi had initially planned to cycle alone, a dad cycling for his daughter, but a group of close family and friends have banded together and there will be 7 cyclists doing the full ride with more cyclists joining on the last day- like Rita’s mum and grandma!

The cyclists are: Fadi - Rita's Daddy! Anthony - Rita's Grandad ; Simon - Rita's Uncle; Tom - Rita's Uncle ; Anthony P - Rita's Great Uncle ; David - Daddy's friend ; Kenny - Daddy's friend

Edinburgh to Glasgow leg they will be joined by:

Liz - Rita's Mummy! Anne - Rita's Grandma; Eleanor - Rita's Auntie and other friends and family!
