Cycling the Caledonian Way · 24 May 2025

Since 1931, our love for Scotland has protected our natural, built and cultural heritage. From coastlines to castles, wildlife to wilderness and art to architecture, we encourage people to come together and connect over the things that make Scotland unique and protect them for future generations.

Story

In April 2025 Glen Rosa on the Isle of Arran was hit by a devastating wildfire that destroyed thousands of trees, damaging one of Scotland's most beloved natural areas.

This May, three Ayrshire lads, Will, Colin and Alex, will cycle 250 miles along the Caledonian Way from Irvine to Inverness with the aim of raising funds to help the National Trust for Scotland restore this important natural habitat.

It is estimated that some 15,000 trees in Glen Rosa have been lost, with wildlife hit particularly hard, including adders and frogs. It is estimated that long-term recovery efforts to restore the ecosystem may take up to a decade.

On Saturday the 24th of May we will depart from Irvine and head over to Arran to begin our 6 day journey cycle across the island over to the Mull of Kintyre. The route will then take us West, around Islay and Jura, before heading north via Lochgilphead, Oban, Fort William, Fort Augustus and then finally to Inverness.

Your help will keep us going along the way. A donation of £7.50 will plant one tree, £30 will plant 4 trees, and £60 will plant up to eight trees.

Any help is appreciated - thank you from all three of us!!
