Story
A family friend has arranged this 5k to raise funds for Ward 28 at the RAH. This Ward has been designated as a dedicated Surgical Palliative Care Unit but the layout and infrastructure are not currently suitable as a hospice-style facility.
Staff want to significantly improve the experience for patients and their loved ones, with provision of private space for families and loved ones, and enhancement of the physical environment to improve privacy, dignity and comfort.
The run is being arranged in memory of Dr Anton Buter who was a passionate supporter of palliative care provision in the RAH, and ultimately, a recipient of that care within both the RAH and Accord Hospice. He was also a great athlete which is how he is remembered by friends and colleagues.
The aim of the 5k is enjoy an inclusive 5k run for patients, staff, family and friends, of all abilities, in honour of Anton and past patients and those who the team hope to serve better in the future. I also have a personal goal of leaving Mr Patrick MacGoey in my dust.
Entrance fee for the run is £10 and you can sign up here:
