Story
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
The Challenge
In March, I'll be attempting to run a half-marathon (21 km). This is a big challenge personally, as this will be my first attempt at this distance, or any race distance for that matter! The event will take place in Richmond Park, south-west London.
Volunteering and charitable giving have always been really important activities to me. It's been a lifelong dream of mine to be able to complete a run to raise funds for charity, and this was a key reason why I started taking my health and fitness seriously. To that end, I've decided to use this personal challenge as an opportunity to raise money for a good cause.
The Charity
I'm fundraising for the Norwich branch of Samaritans - an organisation that has done brilliant work in suicide prevention and wellbeing support in Norfolk over the past 60 years.
In 2023, 5,656 people died by suicide in England, an increase from the year before. Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy for both the individual and those who knew them - an experience that has heavily affected me on a personal level.
Samaritans is a key organisation that works to reduce the number of people who die by suicide. Every year, the Norwich branch receives thousands of calls, and provides training and talks to community groups, businesses, and education institutions across Norfolk. Just a £10 donation to Samaritans has the power to answer a potentially life-saving call.
The Goal
£210 is the daily running cost for the Norwich branch of Samaritans, so I'd love to support them in covering the expense for the vital support they provide for a day.
Thank you for taking the time to read this story. I would be grateful for any support you can provide, whether it's a small donation or simply cheering me on! Every little bit helps and goes a long way in making a difference. I'll provide updates as I take on this challenge!
