Story
Ward 83 in Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital is a specialised unit in Long Term ventilation. Our patients are admitted to this unit as a step down from HDU with complex medical needs, requiring 24 hour care. We specialise in complex discharge planning and extensive training of parents/carers, with the aim to get these children home with their families.
The children and families on this ward stay for many years and we work to empower parents/guardians to be proficient in leading their children's care whilst on the unit to prepare them for life at home. This can involve tracheostomies, ventilation, feeding tubes, manual handling, and medication training.
Our staff members would like to raise money for the ward and the children to help make their stay a comfortable and supportive 'home from home'.
We would like the children to be able to access sensory toys and equipment to enhance their stay, to be able to take them on days out with their families and help create memories that our families can treasure.
We have been donated a bike from PUREGYM and we aim to cycle 2470 miles between now and Christmas Day - the distance to the North Pole from Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital!
Doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, parents and hopefully a few celebrities are going to help us get to our destination. This journey will be updated on our just giving page / on X (twitter) @RMCH_Ward83.
