What is Recovery Runners?
Recovery Runners is a community-led running group for anyone using running as a tool to recover from life-changing events, addictive behaviours, or mental and physical ill health.
Founded in 2021 by two recovering alcoholics, Jamie and Dean, Recovery Runners offers meet-ups, training programmes, and running events, all focused on providing support, connection, and motivation to those on a journey of recovery.
Jamie and Dean’s own stories are deeply inspiring. Both have overcome addiction and are passionate about helping others do the same. For them, running was more than just fitness, it became a lifeline. Alongside leading the Recovery Runners community, they’ve also taken on incredible personal challenges.
Jamie is on a mission to complete all seven World Marathon Majors, yes, it was six, but Sydney was officially added to the list in 2025! He’s taking on the Boston Marathon on April 21st and the Chicago Marathon on October 9th, bringing his total to four. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s also preparing for the Ironman Challenge, a true test of endurance that includes a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and a full marathon run.
Dean is hitting some remarkable milestones too. He’ll be running the London Marathon on April 27th and taking on a 44-mile ultra-run through Normandy on the anniversary of D-Day, a powerful tribute on historic ground.
While many chase medals, for Jamie and Dean, running is about so much more. It’s an escape, a form of therapy, and a way to connect. They believe the mental health benefits of exercise far outweigh everything else and they’re committed to sharing those benefits with others who need support.
Recovery Runners is still growing, and every bit of support, no matter how big or small, makes a difference. Donate via this JustGiving page to donate and cheer them on as they take on an epic year of challenges.
