Team: Team fundraising for Portishead Youth & Community Centre

60hr cycle marathon · 24 April 2026

Portishead Youth & Community Centre has been supporting the local community of Portishead for 60 years, providing activities and support. We are a safe and supportive space for people of all ages, backgrounds and needs; the building is a community centre during the day and a youth centre at night.

Story

Portishead Youth and Community Centre turns 60 this year. That's 60 years at the heart of the community serving the people of Portishead; from newborn babies to local pensioners and everyone in between. We want to make sure we can carry on providing this vital support and help to those that need it, because if you lose your local youth and community center, you lose part of the soul and fabric of your town.

Places like PYCC are disappearing at an unprecedented rate. Since 2010 local authority funding for youth services in England and Wales has been cut by roughly 70%, meaning the closure of around 1000 youth and community centers. PYCC is not government funded, meaning we face the additional challenge of having to raise all of our funds through private donations, grants, events, and the use of our facilities. That's why we are getting on our bikes...

Over the weekend of the 24th of April a team of five friends (one a trustee at PYCC) will be embarking on an epic 60hr continuous cycle on Portishead high-street to raise funds for PYCC. Starting at 8am on Friday morning and running through the night on Friday and Saturday night they will cycle for 60hrs non-stop until Sunday evening at 8pm. Each person will complete two 6-hour shifts on the exercise bike. There will also be a second bike for members of the public to hop on and join in... so please do pop down and be involved in the action.

We want to see the people of Portishead coming together to get cycling, give generously, and ultimately keep PYCC open for 60 more amazing years at the heart of the Town.

*Many thanks to the amazing people at LFTD Training Club, Fox Cycling, Functional Fitness, Walnut Grove and Roltec Cycles for being so generous with their support and sponsorship for this event, and to Empero Lounge for hosting the event*
