The Great South Run for Education in Ghana

This October, we’re a team of 12 runners from across the UK taking on the 10-mile Great South Run to raise vital funds for an incredible school in Ghana’s Central Region. To celebrate the cause and honour Ghanaian culture, we’ll be running in bright, traditional Kente cloth—so keep an eye out for us on race day!

We’re fundraising for Awutu Winton Senior High School, a not-for-profit school supported by the EDP Trust. Located in a rural area, the school provides 550 underprivileged students with access to free education, daily meals, clean drinking water, counselling, sports, and extracurricular activities—opportunities they would otherwise go without.

It costs around £130,000 a year to keep the school running, and every penny raised goes directly to the students. Our goal is to raise at least £6,000, which would enable 20 more students to attend the school next year.

A donation of just £300 is enough to fund a student’s education at the school for an entire year!

Izzie Dooley is a volunteer at the project and has spent the past nine months at the school. In her words “It’s a truly special place where young people feel safe and supported, and where they can build a brighter future for themselves and their families.”
