Story
Thankyou for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Graham George was one of my closest friends. Someone who meant the world to me. We laughed, we sang, we danced together.
In July 2025 Graham finally lost his long and brutal battle with a rare cancer (Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma) that he was diagnosed with at the age of 17.
Graham and I would have the best time together. We would often find ourselves watching Lewes FC (our local football team) which is where this story starts.......we headed down for a match not knowing who they were even playing. Turns out it was a random team from Essex we had never heard of.
Unknowingly, we were stood with the away fans (as they wore the same colours as Lewes!!), only finding out our mistake mid way through the match! We had however stumbled across the most welcoming, friendly bunch of people we had ever met. So much so we swapped allegiance and started supporting Brightlingsea Regent FC!!! Since that day we have followed them avidly and they have made us feel part of the family. We have become so close to everyone at the club and they genuinely are the nicest people and the most welcoming football club on earth. Luckily we got to catch a home game in Essex before Graham passed which meant the world to him.
Since his passing many of Grahams closest friends and family visited Brightlingsea for a match and the club could not have done anymore. From a minutes silence before kick off, the 'ultras' chanting his name during the game and even allowing us to put a memorial plaque up in the clubhouse. This all meant so much to us.
I have decided to raise money for The Royal Marsden, Oak Foundation Development Unit in Grahams memory. This is the largest oncology phase 1 clinical trial centre in Europe delivering high quality nursing care to patients with advanced cancer who are receiving first-in-man clinical trials.
They cared for Graham, giving him so much hope and are working so incredibly hard to help the next cancer patient and the next and the next. The work they do is the most wonderful thing.
As a fitting tribute and pushing myself to the maximum I will be cycling -god help me - from my home in Sussex to Brightlingsea Regent FC in Essex, the club that meant so much to Graham and I......a ride of 117 miles! For someone who does not cycle this is going to be one hell of a challenge but nothing compared to the challenge Graham faced.
I would be so very grateful if you can donate what you can to help support this foundation that is looking to help the future lives of people who are dealt this awful hand.
Graham has left many legacies and I would love for this to be another.
Thank you. X
