Hadrian's Wall Challenge · 7 June 2024

PAPYRUS is the national charity for the prevention of young suicide. We run HOPELINE247 0800 068 4141 a freephone confidential helpline staffed by trained professionals who give advice, support & information to anyone who is feeling suicidal, or concerned that a young person they know may be at risk

Story

Dan was 33 years old, a very popular man, happily married with a 2 year old daughter and was financially secure. We were unaware that he was suffering and that he had visited his GP twice, given antidepressants but no further help. As the parents of Dan we fully support Rob and Mark in what they are doing to highlight the crisis in mental health. Much more needs to be done to support men with their mental health. Every week 115 people die by suicide in the UK, 75% are male. We have been devastated by Dan's death, which came as an enormous shock from which we will never recover. Please support Rob and Mark in their fundraising walk.

Steve and Elaine Barden

Me and Mark Woodcock are going to try and walk/run the 85 mile length of Hadrian's Wall in 3 days. We are starting at Bowness on Solway on Friday 7th June and finishing at Wallsend, Newcastle on Sunday 9th. We are hoping to run the flatter sections and walk the hilly sections, we are covering 35 miles the first day and 25 miles on Day 2 and 3.

We are doing this in memory of Daniel and to raise money and awareness for people suffering with Mental Health issues. It is a cause close to my heart as my dad has tried to take his own life before. I'm sure most people reading this know someone who has suffered or does suffer on a daily basis and it is upto all of us to reach out to them people even if its just a text to check in on them, sometimes it's the people who we least suspect, as was in Daniel's and my Dad's case, who need that visit, message or call.
