Rob's Mt Toubkal fundraiser for Temwa

Rob Mamuda is raising money for Temwa

Mountain Men Mount Toubkal Trek for Temwa · 14 October 2025 to 17 October 2025 · Start fundraising for this event

Founded in 2003, Temwa is a Bristol based charity whose mission is to develop self-sufficient communities in hard-to-reach areas of northern Malawi – itself the third poorest country in the world. We serve the communities of Nkhata Bay North, a very remote area and home to around 55,000 people. Our aim is to provide an infrastructure to support families in this region facing financial and humanitarian hardship. We accomplish this by implementing programmes in health, education, agriculture and forestry. All of our projects are community-driven meaning that local communities are actively involved in the design and implementation of the projects. We deliver our programmes by our in-country Temwa team, all of them nationals with many from the local area, as such they have a deep local and operational knowledge of the needs of Nkhata Bay North.

Story

The truth is I am currently undergoing Chemotherapy for a bone cancer which is secondary to a prostate cancer diagnosed 4 years ago. This round of treatment will hopefully prolong my life above 10 years with other treatments along the way. I have zero testosterone and am on lifelong hormone therapy. In any case, I am 59 this year, overweight and not as fit as I should be.

Instead of accepting my position my simple goal is to change it. This challenge will test me, and I will use it as a catalyst to lose weight, train harder, get fitter and prepare myself mentally to complete this challenge. I am doing it for me, my family and of course Temwa.

A group of lads/men are going to trek to the top of Mount Toubkal over three days in October 2025.

I will be one of them.

Mt Toubkal is the highest mountain in North Africa

Even as I write this I am nervous, I don’t like to fail so why am I putting myself through this….

We are trekking for a great cause and one that is close to my heart (Temwa) more about them below

I will see each donation to my page as a vote of confidence, encouragement, belief, and an arm around my shoulder helping me to achieve this goal and thereby set myself up for facing my other future challenges.

Know that I appreciate every penny and understand this means the world to me.

A little about our group.

Mountain Men are an inclusive group of men (all ages, shapes, sizes, and fitness levels) who get together regularly for walks of different degree’s mostly at the weekend. We talk, we share, we laugh, we don’t judge, we get outside in all weather and did I mention we laugh. We do all this whist improving our mental wellbeing, our fitness and our strength. I have personally met some great people and honestly enjoyed the free therapy as well as the comradery and laughs. It’s this group of guys that have inspired me to take on this challenge and we will be there for each other in training as well as on the trek.

Let me know if you would like to join the group and there are still spaces on the trek if you fancy that too.
