In 2014, 198 professional cyclists rolled out of Leeds to start stage 1 of what is considered by many as one of the toughest sporting events of the year, and without question the most famous bike race in the world, the Tour de France. The riders that day tackled a route from Leeds to Harrogate that was 129 miles in length, winding around the valleys of North Yorkshire to complete over 8500ft of climbing.

Last year, a group of mates went on a cycling trip to Belgium, and whilst enjoying a few post ride beverages the suggestion was made to do a ride for charity.

So, on Saturday the 22nd of August 2026, this same group of mates will tackle that very stage from the 2014 Tour, in the hope of raising money for their respective charities.

I’ll be cycling this stage for Baby Beat. Raising any amount of money for Baby Beat will help support premature and sick babies in the central Lancashire and South Cumbria areas.

It will help fund specialist equipment and training as well as patient services and comforts for families when they need it most.

My wife and I support this charity and it’s very close to our hearts.
