Rob's fundraiser for Maggie's Centres

Pembrokeshire trail 10k · 27 April 2024
We are taking on the Pembrokeshire Trail 10k (advertised as a 10k but is actually 7.5 miles!!) on Saturday 27th April 2024. The coastal trails here are wild and exposed, with undulating terrain and spectacular views. The course is challenging but the views presented to you around each corner make this a beautiful course that must be experienced.
Why are we running?
Taking on this challenge, with myself are a group of Damian's friends and his wife, Clare. We as a team are running to raise money for Maggie's Cancer Care. We are running in support of Damian Hewitt, our friend and husband to Clare and Dad to Evan and Noah. He is also the local Headteacher of Portfield School in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.
Sadly Damian was rushed into hospital for emergency treatment on his brain in the summer of 2023, when he had both a cancerous growth and cyst removed from the left side of his brain. The surgery was successful but sadly the confirmed Grade 4 Glioblastoma is life limiting and so the expertise and support from Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Swansea in supporting Damian and his family as he adapts to the changes for the remainder of his life is truly priceless. Damian is currently undergoing chemotherapy to prolong his life as best as possible. Maggie's is a sanctuary, a place to talk, get advice, cry or laugh together, whatever is needed. They make a great cup of tea too! Maggie's Swansea https://www.maggies.org/our-centres/maggies-swansea/
Maggie’s support families who suddenly find themselves dealing with cancer and are situated near hospitals recognised for their work with Cancer. Their centres provide advice and support for all types of cancer and are famous for their bespoke approaches to support every individual. There are so many types of cancer and it therefore impacts on individuals and their loved ones in so many different ways. Maggie’s jumps in and helps you make sense and live with your cancer as best as you can.
