Story
Two well-known Falmouth business owners Rob & Nicki Watkins of Synergy, Events Square, Falmouth are turning their milestone 50th birthday and their 10 years of opening the business, into an opportunity to give back to the community. Instead of receiving gifts, they are hosting a "50/50 Be Lucky" charity auction night at the Falmouth Rugby Club on the 28th August to raise vital funds for two crucial Cornish mental health charities: Man Down and Georgia’s Voice. As it’s a birthday party it is a closed event with the venue already at capacity.
The inspiration behind the theme is simple gratitude. "We feel we have been incredibly lucky in life and business," the organizers explained. "We wanted to use our joint 50th birthdays to give rather than receive, helping others in our community who need support to perhaps 'be lucky' in life more than they have been so far."
Local businesses are already rallying behind the cause, donating high-value experiences and services for the grand auctions. Early pledges include an immersive boat trip complete with snorkelling and lunch, as well as a generous four-hour landscaping session from a local gardening firm, car valets and several other experiences.
The organizers are now calling on more Falmouth and surrounding area business owners to get involved. By donating a valuable product, service, or experience to the auction, businesses can promote their work to a wide local audience while directly supporting suicide prevention and mental health awareness across Cornwall.
Supporting equally 50/50 both Man Down (supporting men's mental health) and Georgia’s Voice (supporting young women) the aim is to raise as much on the run up to the night as we can.
Straight forward Donations can be made directly here, or on the night, and if you want to place a bid for an auction item online as you cannot make the event on the night - you can still pledge to the auction.
Instructions for online Auction Donations
In order to pledge you must have made a donation of £5 to the Just giving site along with your bid amount with wording in the comments that state the Title of Item and your Max Bid Amount
e.g.
Days Gardening Services, Max Bid £50
Should your bid be the winning one on the day we will ask you to donate the balance e.g. £50 - 5 = £45. Some of the items will be closed on the night, some of them will run until the end of the event. You will either need to keep an eye on the Donations or bid high to secure it.
The only thing to remember is that it is all for charity, good ones that help others "Be Lucky".
The List of online Auction items are below, with thanks to all Companies and individuals who have donated (updated as new ones come in). Some of the items will only be available on the night in person. In addition there will be a selection of closed and open auction items on the night.
