Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity believes no child should face hospital alone. Every day, 500 seriously ill children face a life-changing hospital visit. Children tell us it can be frightening. Parents say they're sick with worry. We want to change this. With your support, we can. Are you in?

Story

Jacob was born on the 27th January 2020, he was doing brilliantly, meeting all milestones etc, then at 5 month old while we were having our 1st visit after 4 weeks of self isolation due to COVID he had an episode while in my arms, I knew it was a seizure (Infantile Spasm) having worked in paediatric neurology and phoned 999. He was blue lighted into the Sick Kids A&E but discharged hours later saying he had reflux. Infantile Spasm is quite rare so many Dr’s don’t know what to look for hence lots of mis diagnosis for reflux. Each spasm causes brain damage and Jacob was having over 100 a day. Dr Shetty is an incredible Neurologist and when I finally managed to get someone to listen and perform an EEG it was diagnosed and treated immediately. Jacob is delayed but he is here with us living his best life which we are eternally grateful. We urgently need funding to help train staff in hospitals/paramedics/GP’s , and parents to know what to look out for in their babies and have immediate treatment to limit brain damage.
