Story

London overflows with food, but not everybody has enough to eat.

The stats show the scale: 1.5 million London adults struggle to afford to eat each day, while the food industry creates 3 million tonnes of edible surplus food each year.

The Felix Project works to right this wrong by redistributing that surplus food to people who would otherwise go without.

It's a great cause and a very London one. I work at the Evening Standard newspaper and have lived in London all my life, so I'm really delighted to have the chance to give something back to this city.

The Felix Project also has a rich relationship with the Standard. It's a charity I've long read and written about and it does excellent things.

As for myself, I've become a bit obsessed with running, as my friends and family know all too well (sample quote from my sister, delivered with kind-hearted despair: "please stop talking about running so much"). I've never run a marathon before but have been running for years. I've really wanted to do this for a long while and am keen to push myself for a sub 3 hour time.

It's going to be a pretty gruelling experience, of that I'm sure. Knowing that I'm doing it in aid of a great cause will help keep me going, even when my legs are pleading to please, please make it all stop already.

I'm very happy that I can take a personal goal and transform into something that helps others: running to raise money for the great Felix Project. I'd be so delighted for any contribution you can make via me to this wonderful cause.
