Cycle Across the Andes · 1 January 2024

Since 1993, we have impacted the lives of over 250,000 people living in hard-to-reach communities in rural Nepal. We have built or renovated nearly 200 earthquake resilient schools, creating safe and inclusive learning environments. Our other projects include community health and sanitation projects.

Story

In January 2024 I am cycling across the Andes to raise funds for Shree Prabha School. This is the school that I focused my fundraising on in 2020 and 2022, by cycling solo across Nepal. This final fundraising effort will allow the purchase of land adjacent to the school as well as building more classrooms to meet demand. I am fundraising through the Pahar Trust charity (UK Registered) and every element raised will purely be focused on the school. The school is now the centre of educational best practice in the area (remote West Nepal) and its success has attracted more and more students to the school and it has recently started sending leavers to university in India and beyond. As important, it has continued to see its female numbers grow and grow - the male/female mix is even.

This solo cycle has mixture of everything…altitude, wilderness camping and perhaps most challenging with my dodgy knee (eleven ops) is the daily distance across the pampas that will see me in the saddle for around nine hours each day. I start on the coast of Chile in Concon and hopefully arrive in Buenos Aires two weeks later.

This is my last dance in fundraising for the school and I thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and potentially donate to Shree Prabha School in Boharagaun in West Nepal.
