Story
As a family we have decided to raise funds for a local syringe driver charity based in Whittlesey in memory of Alison. Some of you may be aware that Alison had a syringe driver for many months since leaving Addenbrookes and this small device enabled her symptoms to be better managed when the normal routes of medication were not working so well. In short a syringe driver is a device used in palliative care. It is a box that is attached to the patient by a needle, through which drugs can be administered giving a constant flow of pain relief. The cost of a driver is around £1400. These devices are not always available in peoples hour of need and the community nurses rely on the donations of equipment from this charity to be able to help their patients. The charity serves the greater Peterborough and Fenland area, when they set it up 33 GP surgeries across the area were sharing just 19 drivers meaning many people never had the opportunity to use one. Since then the number of drivers have greatly increased but there still are not enough meaning people remain in pain which could be eased as they approach the end of life. So your donation no matter how small is greatly appreciated and we want to thank you for donating towards a lasting legacy in memory of Alison.
