Story
I decided to ride the Fred Whitton Cycle Sportive this year, although I have not been personally affected by cancer I wanted to dedicate a fundraiser to help everyone who needs support from this amazing charity.
Cycling became a serious hobby for me around 12 months ago after myself and my son Lewis purchased road bikes. This new interest has really helped me overcome personal challenges from work related pressure to health anxiety, I find cycling is a great way to focus the mind whilst also maintaining a better level of fitness.
We both decided to enter the Fred Whitton back in December and since then have been training four or five days a week. My training progress can be seen on my Strava page https://strava.app.link/QqwDkNlJB2b
This gruelling bike ride takes on the hardest of climbs in the Lake District including the Struggle, Honister Pass, Newlands, Whinlatter Pass, Wrynose and the formidable Hardknott Pass. Covering 109 miles and over 10,000ft of elevation - it’s going to be a tough ride!
To get to this point has taken a lot of preparation, time and dedication which is especially hard through the cold winter months.
Knowing people are willing to give a donation to this worthy cause will help myself and Lewis stay focused to complete this epic, gruelling ride. Please give whatever you can, it will be appreciated beyond words- thank you!
