Story
We (Sameera & Robert) are running the Royal Parks Half Marathon again and raising money for a great charity, Microtia UK, a registered charity that is dedicated to supporting people born with Microtia.
Microtia (Latin for 'little ear') is a malformation or misshape of the external part of the ear, which can vary in severity and associated hearing loss. It is a rare condition affecting 1 in 6000 babies.
On 06 June 2019 we were unbelievably lucky to welcome the birth of our second child Daniel Hughes to make our family complete. Daniel was born with Microtia, a condition we had never heard of before, he has unilateral hearing loss in his left ear as well as a malformation of the outer ear.
Much to our amazement and delight he is doing incredibly well and is more than a match for his head strong sister, Hannah.
However, becoming a parent is both the most wonderful and challenging times of your life and discovering that your baby has been born with a medical condition and a visible difference can be daunting.
Microtia UK, a charity only established in 2013, is the first charity in the UK which offers support to people born with Microtia. The charity has developed a range of publications and resources to support people with Microtia and their families such as a "New Parents Guide", it organises family days and provides grants for research.
Please support us by donating to this brilliant cause so they can continue their great work. More information on the charity can be found here:
