Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Throughout my own personal journey this year, I have conversed with friends and colleagues about how things are not always as pleasant as they seem. In a world where many let their social media profile define them as a person, we sometimes project falsely positive images in society to save face.
When stories were shared with these close ones I was shocked ; society doesn’t make too much room for you to believe that men can be victims of domestic abuse. Struggles of wives and girlfriends who suffer from violent partners is (rightly) well publicised ; both as an issue in homes in this country and abroad. This is not an attempt to play genders off against each other, but an effort to highlight that many men suffer in silence.
Mankind is an information and signposting service to men suffering from domestic abuse from their current or former wife, partner (including same-sex partner) or husband. This can range from physical violence or object throwing to abuse such as constant bullying or insults. Services include direct help for victims, in addition to training for professionals and survivor stories. Mankind receive no taxpayer, government or public money – so are wholly dependent on donations to keep it open.
In this month of Movember, I have been (badly) growing a moustache to raise awareness of this issue, hoping to reduce stigma and raise money for the important services that Mankind provide. Please donate what you can to this important cause.
