Story
When someone you love no longer recognises you, or your children, it’s one of the most heartbreaking things you can experience. Sadly, it’s something I’ve lived through not once, but twice.
First with my Great Nan, Win McRae, and more recently with my beloved Nan, Irene Highmoor. My nan battled Alzheimer’s in the final years of her life, and it gradually stole her memories. Toward the end, she only recognised one of my daughters, and I had to gently remind her who I was. Earlier this year, we lost her. She passed away peacefully in her sleep.
In her memory and for everyone facing this cruel disease, I’ve decided to run the 2026 London Marathon to raise money for BRACE.
BRACE funds world-class clinical and laboratory research into Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia to find better treatments, achieve earlier diagnosis and, one day, a cure.
I know running 26.2 miles won't bring my nan back, but I hope it brings us one step closer to a future without dementia.
Please donate if you can and share this page. Every pound makes a difference.
Together, we will defeat dementia.
