London to Brighton Challenge 2024 · 25 May 2024 ·

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation engages and educates people about the global work of the CWGC and the stories of those who died in the World Wars. Through learning, tours and heritage projects, we help new generations explore this history and remember their sacrifice.

Story

Every step I take on May 25th is a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I'm embarking on a journey, walking 100km from London to Brighton in 24 hours, to raise funds for the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF).

The CWGF cares for the men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the First and Second World Wars, ensuring they will never be forgotten.

The Foundation and Commission care for memorials and cemeteries for 1.7 million commonwealth casualties, this covers headstones, monuments and the horticultural work in the grounds they are in.

Moreover, the CWGF is committed to commemorating the missing. Through meticulous research and documentation, their Commemorations team ensures that each casualty is commemorated correctly, maintaining the CWGF casualty database with precision. Working alongside recovery teams, researchers, and national defence authorities, they help identify the last resting place of those originally listed as 'missing,' ensuring that no sacrifice is forgotten.

Additionally, the CWGF is engaged in educational outreach, sharing the stories of the fallen with schools, communities, and visitors from around the world. Through exhibitions, educational materials, Tours, and guides at various memorials, they strive to ensure that the sacrifices made are understood and appreciated by future generations, fostering a sense of connection and gratitude.

In Particular my own relatives, Edward Northcote of the Royal Sussex Regiment and Robert Eminson of the King's Royal Rifle Corps, both of whom are cared for by the Foundation.

Any donations are greatly appreciated and will be sent in whole to the CWGF.
