Robert's fundraiser for 8:56 Foundation

Robert Palmer is raising money for 8:56 Foundation

London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 ·

The 8:56 Foundation is a Men’s Mental Health non profit organisation based in King’s Lynn, they aim to raise awareness, increase the profile of support and reduce the stigma associated with mental health in Norfolk. The foundation is run by volunteers, set up after losing local business man Lee Calton to suicide in April 2021. Lee was 37, very successful, was a great friend to all, with a huge smile he was very kind and generous and loved to do things for charities including running the London marathon three times. Norfolk’s suicide rate is above the national average, the 8:56 want to change this! By using sport as an aid, we want to encourage men to talk and reduce the risk of loneliness and isolation. The 8:56 Foundation Wellbeing Pathway is designed to help Men's Mental Health and wellbeing through Men’s Time Sports and Fishing Sessions, Our Peer Support Group, Talking Therapy and Wellness Football

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hello I’m Rob. I’m a groundsman at Norwich City Football Club. Since 2008 when I first ran the London marathon I’ve always wanted to do it again. This year I was one of the lucky ones and got a ballot place.

I will be running for The 856 Foundation.

Why the 856 Foundation….

On 15 April 2021, the world tragically lost Lee Calton to suicide at the age of 37. Lee was an incredibly popular and well respected man.

Lee was a school friend and a friend after school mainly for our love of football.

Lee was a massive football fan, who supported Arsenal and followed his local team King’s Lynn Town FC.

Lee and his friends would catch the 08:56 train out of King’s Lynn Station on a Saturday morning with his friends. These days were filled with laughter, banter, friendship, the occasional beer, and not forgetting the football itself. 8:56 therefore represents something Lee held in such high regard; happy times, fond memories and a group of friends that were always there for each other.

Whilst the 8:56 is a time, it also represents a journey. Just like Lee and his friends on match day, the 8:56 represents strength, support and sense of belonging that can be found in a group. Whether you’re winning or losing, whatever the weather, they turn up regardless

All donations are greatly appreciated and will go a long way in supporting people who use the foundation.
