Story
We are raising money for the Sickle Cell Support Group on Merseyside.
Sickle cell disorders are a group of illnesses which affect the red blood cells. It is a genetic condition, which causes a person’s normally round and flexible blood cells to become stiff and sickle shaped. It stops the blood cells, and the oxygen they carry, from being able to move freely around the body. This can cause episodes of severe pain, referred to as sickle cell crisis. The person is born with this disorder and can be extremely frightening as well as physically disabling for young children.
The inability to carry oxygen around the body also causes breathlessness, tiredness and weakness. People with sickle cell are at risk of stroke, acute chest syndrome, blindness, bone damage and other complications.
Please help us raise some much needed funds for this brilliant support group to help them support others.
