Robert's fundraiser for Brain Tumour Research

Brain Tumour Research Isle of Wight Randonnée · 6 July 2024 ·
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page. I've never done one of these before so this is new for me.
In May last year my mum was diagnosed with this awful disease. Early on it robbed her of her independence as it paralysed her left side. Despite this she remained her strong willed, kind and creative self who wanted to carry on mucking in, and continued to make me laugh even in her final days.
She passed away 3 months after diagnosis.
I wanted to do something in her memory and in a strange twist of fate the Brain Tumour Research are holding a fundraising cycle ride on the Isle of Wight.
So here's the plan. I will be cycling the 45 miles to Bristol with a backpack of bits and bobs. Once there I will be catching a train to Southampton where I'll then catch a ferry to the Island before cycling another 15 miles to my hotel.
The next day I will ride 88 miles around the entire island with other fund raisers.
Lastly I will do the return leg in reverse, cycling back to Cardiff from Bristol.
In total this will be at least 178 miles (more if I get lost) and will be my longest consecutive ride that I've ever done.
Mum loved cycling & the Isle of Wight. This event falls what would have been her birthday so I feel its particularly pertinent. This is an adventure she would have loved to do herself.
Why donate?
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.
I am fundraising for Brain Tumour Research as they are the only national charity dedicated to funding long-term, sustainable research in the UK. Please help me fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.
