Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness across the UK. Our nurses work night and day in people’s homes and our hospices offer specialist care. We also support people emotionally, provide practical information, and match them with trained volunteers.

Story

A couple of years ago, I told myself I was going to run the London Marathon one day. Whilst there are countless worthy charitable causes to run for, I also knew that if I ever did run the marathon, I would want to be running for Marie Curie.

Well, this year I am lucky enough to get to do exactly that.

I will be running the London Marathon as part of Team Marie Curie in April. And, I’ve also decided to run the Amsterdam Marathon in October (which seemed like a good idea at the time…!)

So, why Marie Curie?

One in four people dying in the UK don't get the care and support they need, and the problem is getting worse as our population ages. By 2048, the need for end of life care will have increased by up to 25%. This needs to change.

Everything Marie Curie does, everything they fund, the reasons their teams go to work is to drive fundamental change in end of life care so that everyone can have the best possible quality of life to the end.

Over the past 4 years, Marie Curie has supported 3 people very close to me in the final stages of their lives. They allowed each of them to die with dignity, on their own terms, and provided comfort to them and those around them in what is an unimaginably difficult period. That the team there do this daily, funded by donations, is remarkable.

If you’re able to donate, it would be massively appreciated and your money would be going to an exceptionally good cause.

My thanks in advance,

Robbie xx
