Story
In memory of my beloved father, Robert "Bob" Granger, whose sudden passing has left our family in profound grief. Dad was a cherished husband, father, stepfather, grandad, brother, son-in-law, and brother-in-law, whose presence brought warmth and strength into the lives of so many. His absence leaves a void that is deeply felt, not only by our family but also by his friends and everyone he touched.
Dad faced heart issues over the years, yet he was resilient and determined. Five years ago, he came back to us from the brink of death after surviving a major haemorrhage and a rare cancer. We are endlessly grateful that he gifted us those additional years, during which he continued to inspire and love us deeply. His support and presence were especially meaningful on my wedding day to Caryn, a small but unforgettable gathering in Suffolk.
On the day he passed, Dad spent a joyful afternoon with his wife, Louise, and his grandson, Benjamin, who adored him beyond words. Together, they fed the ducks, hugged trees, and delighted in the small wonders of nature—reminders of how fully Dad embraced his role as Grandad to Ben. Later that evening, he joined a gathering with friends he cherished and valued deeply. Little did we know that would be his last evening with us.
In the hours that followed, our lives shattered with a knock at the door and a phone call we could never have imagined. We are eternally grateful to the two good Samaritans who performed CPR and the paramedics who fought tirelessly to revive him. The shock and disbelief that followed were beyond words, but the compassion of those who tried to save him brought us a measure of comfort in our grief.
Coronary heart disease is a hidden, insidious condition that claimed my dad, even as he fought so hard to stay with us. The reality of this disease means that his devoted wife, who is herself facing terminal breast cancer, will face the end of her journey without the love and strength of her husband by her side.
In Dad's honor, we are raising funds for the British Heart Foundation to help prevent other families from experiencing the pain of losing someone so suddenly to heart disease. Every donation, no matter how small, will bring us closer to a future without heart disease—a future where families can avoid this kind of heartbreak.
Please join us in honouring Dad's memory and his love for life, his family, and his friends. Let’s make a difference in his name, so that his legacy will live on in a world with less suffering from heart disease. Thank you for your support, and for helping to turn our grief into hope.
