Story
To celebrate World Polio Day, a dedicated team of Rotarians from across London and the Southeast, including Robin, will be taking on the exhilarating challenge of climbing the iconic O2 Dome. This remarkable event is not just about reaching new heights; it symbolizes our unwavering commitment to eradicating polio worldwide.
Rotary started this programme almost 30 years ago when Polio was endemic throughout the World. My Mother contracted it as a baby and spent some time in an Iron Lung before learning to walk with the aid of calipers. Polio remains a threat in many parts of the globe but there are only two counties int he World yet to be confirmed as clear of the wild polio virus: the border highlands between Pakistan and Afghanistan. We believe that every step we take can make a difference. With your support, we can amplify our efforts to ensure that no child suffers from this preventable disease. Rotarians have been involved not only in the mass vaccination programmes throughout Asia but also brokering temporary ceasefires in the aforementioned two countries so that their children can also be vaccinated. Remember, every pound you donate will be matched by the Bill Gates Foundation at a rate of 2 to 1, meaning that your generosity will have three times the impact!
We are aiming to raise £4000 for this vital cause. Your contribution will help bring us closer to a polio-free world. Join us in this fight against polio and help us reach our target! Together, we can climb higher and achieve more than we ever thought possible
