We believe every blind veteran should be able to lead the life they choose. At Blind Veterans UK we’re one, transformational team. We provide rehabilitation, training, practical advice and emotional support. Together we can help rebuild lives.

Story

I’m running the 2027 London Marathon for Blind Veterans UK — a charity that has been a huge part of my life for the past seven years.

During my time working for Blind Veterans UK, I’ve had the privilege of seeing first-hand the incredible difference this charity makes to the lives of veterans living with sight loss. Over the years, as part of my role as Database Assistant, I’ve processed the applications and read the stories of many inspiring people who take on the London Marathon to raise funds for this amazing cause. In 2026 I stood on the sidelines proudly cheering on those running to raise funds for Blind Veterans UK runners – supporters and some of our own blind veterans. Seeing their determination and the support they received made me realise that now is the right time for me to take on this challenge.

This journey is especially meaningful to me because running a marathon is something I never imagined would be possible. I’ve faced significant physical challenges over the years, including a trochanteric bursectomy and iliotibial band release surgery at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2016, followed by a femoral osteotomy at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in 2019. More recently, I’ve continued rehabilitation and treatment to improve my mobility and strength.

Alongside these physical challenges, I’ve also been living with the effects of a brain injury. Throughout these struggles, Blind Veterans UK has been an incredibly understanding and supportive employer, and I’m deeply grateful for that support.

By running the London Marathon, I want to give something back to a charity that changes lives every day. Every donation will help Blind Veterans UK continue providing vital rehabilitation, training, equipment and lifelong support to veterans who have sacrificed so much.

Whether you can donate, share my page or simply encourage me along the way, your support will mean a great deal. Thank you for helping me take on this challenge and helping Blind Veterans UK continue its incredible work.
