The G-Team
In one corner, we have two gym bros. In the other, a man whose cardio usually begins and ends with a PlayStation controller. What could possibly bring this unlikely trio together for a half marathon?
The answer is ⭐️ Georgina (G) ⭐️
Inspired by her incredible strength and zest for life since her secondary breast cancer diagnosis in 2021, we’ve formed The G-Team. On October 11th, we’re trading the sofa and the squat rack for the streets of London.
This October we’ll be celebrating 5 years of living life since Georginas diagnosis, and what better way to do it than challenge ourselves and raise some money while we’re at it? She is our constant reminder that even in the face of an incurable diagnosis, there is a whole lot of life to be lived. We are running to match even a fraction of the resilience she shows every single day.
October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so there truly is no better time for us to lace up our trainers and shout about the cause!
Understanding Secondary Breast Cancer
It is so important to us that people understand what Georgina is fighting. Secondary (metastatic) breast cancer is when the cancer spreads to other parts of the body. Once this happens, it’s no longer curable, and getting that diagnosis means you’ll be on treatment for the rest of your life. While it can’t be cured yet, it can be treated, and that’s why we’re running to help fund charities like Breast Cancer Now to continue their life saving research.
We want to be clear about what living with secondary breast cancer is like. It means being on permanent, life-long treatment. It means navigating a new normal of scans, hospital appointments, and side effects that most people never see. The reality is a relentless cycle of treatment to keep the cancer in check. The goal of this constant treatment is to allow people like Georgina to live longer, fulfilling lives.
How Breast Cancer Now Helps
We’re raising money for Breast Cancer Now because they are the lifeline for families like ours. Some of the work they do includes:
🎀 Life-Extending Research: Searching for the breakthroughs that give Georgina and others more time.
🎀 Vital Support: Providing the specialist care and community that makes navigating a diagnosis possible.
🎀 The Secondary Breast Cancer Pledge: They work directly with hospitals to improve the standard of care specifically for secondary patients, ensuring they aren't "forgotten" in the system.
🎀 Life-Saving Advocacy: They campaign to make sure the latest life-extending drugs are made available on the NHS, often being the reason patients can access new treatments that weren't available just a few years ago.
Every donation, share, and message of support means the world to The G-Team. We’re doing this for Georgina, for the future of secondary breast cancer treatment, and for everyone living with breast cancer.
We’ll also be running in memory of those we’ve unfortunately lost to breast cancer in our lives:
💖 Marie Hobson, Josh’s mother who passed away in 2000
💖 Sandra Blackett, Rebecca and Georgina’s grandmother who passed away in 1997
Thank you for being in our corner. We’ll see you at the finish line!
