UPDATE: Somehow managed it around the course in 1 hour 30 minutes, so incredibly happy with that. Apparently, the lack of preparation/training is catching up with me now, though, as I'm walking around like I've aged 40 years! 😂
Well, I've got a bit of a crazy challenge, on a number of fronts.
1) First proper run since covid, which left my lungs pretty useless for a couple of years. I've managed some 5k runs in training, but 10 miles is gonna be a challenge.
2) Managed to twist my knee and break my toe a couple of weeks ago, climbing with son #3. The knee seems to better, but the toe still hurts. But, hey, it's not a big toe, and all the others are just decorative, right?
3) Had some problems with the official fundraising site, so I've finally given up and set up a JustGiving page instead - BUT, that means I need to raise £100 per day for the next five days to hit my target!
On the positive side, they're amazing local charity, doing incredible work for a really important cause.
Why is it important? Well,
- 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner...
- 1 in 7 women and 1 in 25 men have been injured by an intimate partner. ...
- 1 in 10 women have been raped by an intimate partner.
- 20% of children in the UK have lived with an adult perpetrating domestic abuse
And with the pandemic and the cost of living crisis, the need is getting even greater.
SWA Swindon Domestic Abuse Services are literally saving lives every day, protecting men, women and children facing fear and violence in their own homes.
If you can, and would like to, help, please do make a donation. If not, just enjoy the photos of the return of the running Bananaman! :)
