Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!
I am planning to take part in a 100km trek across the Sahara to raise money for prostate cancer research. I will be one of the eldest ever to take part in the trek and will be 75 when the trek takes place (4th-11th November). I hope I will be able to overcome to harsh conditions, wide range of temperatures (0-40°C), 6-8 hours hiking per day and camping overnight, as well as up to 6 months training before departure!
I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer (PC) at the end of 2012 and had a radical prostatectomy in April 2013. Luckily I had caught it early enough that it hadn’t spread to my lymph nodes, it had however, got outside of the prostate capsule. This led to me requiring radical radiotherapy in 2014. It then spread in 2021, requiring further surgery.
Now I have regular PSA checks every two months to monitor any progress of the disease. Currently it appears to be relatively stable, but having lived under the cloud of PC for 13 years this will continue for the rest of my life as there is currently no cure.
Unfortunately, I have also developed other cancers since this time, including 6 Basal cell carcinomas and a squamous cell carcinoma of the skin as well as throat cancer in 2024 which was treated successfully with radical radiotherapy.
I consider myself to be one of the lucky ones as I am here to tell the tale.
I would welcome a donation, however small, to my Just Giving page. Link below (Donations required before August 12th 2026).
