On 19th January 2027 I’m stepping into the ring at Midnight Mayhem in Barcelona.

I’m not a fighter by trade. I’ll be spending months in camp learning that the hardest part isn’t the sparring or the conditioning, it’s the bit at 5am when nobody is watching and you have to get up anyway. That’s a very small taste of a discipline other people live by for real.

I’m doing this for Help for Heroes.

Here’s why it matters to me. We ask service personnel to give up their bodies, their families, their twenties, then we hand them a discharge date and expect the rest to sort itself out. It doesn’t. The support on the other side is nowhere near the scale of what was asked on the way in, and the gap gets filled with chronic pain, PTSD, broken relationships, unemployment, homelessness. That isn’t a tragedy that just happens. It’s a choice we keep making.

Help for Heroes picks up what falls through: recovery and rehab, mental health support, career transition, help for families carrying the load. Practical, unglamorous, life-changing.

Every pound goes straight to them. Nothing comes back to me except working hard every day and trying to give back to those who suffer the most.

There is no other outcome than me winning for our heroes on the night by putting on fireworks and a show people will struggle to forget.
