Roman's Courtside Wine Tastings

Aruna Iyengar is raising money for Old College Lawn Tennis Club

Wine tasting

The name says it all. We have a clubhouse regeneration project underway — the final piece of the puzzle for the club — and we need to raise funds to make it happen. But it's also investing in the club itself, and everyone who is part of it.

Story

Dear OC members...from Roman Gonitel,

For the duration of the championships, the bar will be pouring four wines “direct from the winery” – thoughtful, organically farmed, low-intervention wines from small producers near Lisbon who care about soil, history and legacy as much as we care about courts, club and community.

Every glass bought joins our new Wine Box League – a light-hearted game of generosity with a tennis twist.

You choose your “level” with each glass:

Ÿ Qualifier – £5 per glass Get on the board and join the effort.

Ÿ Tour Level – £15 per glass Serious support for the new clubhouse.

Ÿ Champion – £30+ per glass Go big for the club. Add any extra you like.

All proceeds from these wines go directly into the clubhouse regeneration fund.

The Big 3 and the Founders’ Cellar

Every contribution is logged on the Wine Box League leaderboard. At the end of the champion-ships, the top three cumulative givers will become our inaugural “Big 3” and invited to a special Founders’ Cellar tasting later in the campaign

In addition I will run a series of Courtside Cellar Sessions – small, 20-30 minute tastings where you can discover remarkable wines and directly support the new clubhouse.

I run a small boutique wine import business focused on Portugal. I work directly with producers who farm organically, respect their land and history, and think about the future. Over the years, whenever a vintage was particularly interesting, I quietly held back a few bottles – not to trade, but for posterity.

For the Courtside Cellar Sessions, we’ll be opening that reserve. You cannot taste these wines any-where else they are out of circulation. The vintages will range between 2012 and 2021 from different producers...
