Ronan's fundraiser for Willowbrook Hospice

Paris Marathon 2025 · 13 April 2025 ·
As some of you already know, for the past 3 and half years my dad has bravely faced the challenges of advanced oesophageal cancer that has twice returned in the way of terminal brain tumours. In that time he has pushed through major surgery, had part of his stomach removed, brain surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, countless hospital stays, numerous infections and so many hurdles. It’s been a long road but despite all of this, he has faced every single step of every day with unwavering and unfathomable optimism, never given up and persistently made dad jokes. And I couldn’t be prouder of him.
After brain surgery in May 2022 which impacted his speech, he was invited to attend Willowbrook Hospice for a weekly social they run. During a lot of difficult weeks, this quickly became a source of light and joy and a highlight of the week.
From the first day the staff have been so welcoming, supportive and shown an endless levels of kindness and befriended my Dad seeing him for the wonderful, witty and magical human he is. They have shown expert care, escalating health issues to get treatment sooner and looked after him. But they’ve also shown compassion and support for both him and our family and offered moments of peace, laughter, hope and multiple servings of tea, cake and trifle.
During this time I’ve wanted to do any possible thing to feel like I could help. Which is why I asked to run the Paris Marathon for Willowbrook. I want to do something to give back to this incredible charity by raising vital funds to help them continue their work for other families facing similar battles. Willowbrook Hospice relies on donations to offer specialist care, comfort, and palliative care to those with life-limiting illnesses, ensuring they receive the best possible quality of life in their most vulnerable moments.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference—helping the hospice provide essential services, from medical care to emotional and practical support, so they can continue their invaluable work.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. Love, Ro
